# The Fincanva Open API

The Fincanva Open API and the Fincanva MCP server serve the same operations: each one is a REST endpoint and an MCP tool with the same name, the same parameters, the same result and the same plan limits. An AI client calls them as tools; your own code calls them over HTTPS. Every figure they return carries its unit, and the conventions page states what each unit and sign means.

## How do you call a Fincanva operation?

- Over REST, send `POST` to `https://app.fincanva.com/api/v1/research/<operation_id>` with the parameters as a JSON body and one credential — an API key or an OAuth access token, as [Authentication and API keys](/developers/open-api/authentication-and-api-keys) describes.
- Over MCP, add `https://app.fincanva.com/mcp` to an MCP client; each operation is a tool named by its id, and the client signs in with OAuth.
- The OpenAPI 3.1 document of every REST operation is at `https://app.fincanva.com/api/v1/research/openapi.json`.
- Every operation answers in [the result envelope](/developers/concepts/the-result-envelope), and a failure carries one of [the error codes](/developers/open-api/errors-in-the-fincanva-open-api#which-error-codes-can-a-fincanva-operation-return).

> **Not in the app yet.** Two steps need screens that are not in the app yet: creating an API key, which needs the API keys settings, and finishing an MCP client's sign-in, which needs the consent screen.
