# Resolve a strategy's alerts

A [strategy](/glossary/strategy)'s [alerts](/glossary/strategy-alerts) show in the section strip of its header and in the footers of its cards: fix the setting each one names, or leave one to review as is.

## Steps

1. **Read the section strip.** It sits in the strategy's header, above the section band, in every section and every chapter of [Step by step](/glossary/step-by-step): one mark per section — Selection, [Rebalance](/glossary/rebalance), Allocation, Risk, Exits; on a Combined's own tab, Sub-strategies, Allocation, Risk, Rebalance, then a double mark for "Its sub-strategies". A mark is faint grey with nothing, darker grey once its alerts were left as is, violet with one to review, red with a blocking one. Beside it: `{count} blocking`, `{count} to review`, `{count} reviewed`, or **All clear**.
2. **Open Strategy controls.** Click the strip. Each section is a heading with its mark and state — "1 to review · 1 note" — and the sections with nothing share one line, such as "All clear: Rebalance · Exits". Under a heading come its open controls, then what you reviewed, then its [grey notes](/glossary/strategy-alerts#what-do-the-grey-notes-on-a-settings-card-mean). On a Combined's own tab each member with something to say follows under its own name. With nothing to list, the strip opens nothing.
3. **Go to the card that fixes it.** Click a control: you land on its card — in Step by step, on the chapter whose control resolves it (the missing Risk-Off belongs to **Risk and exits**, not **Allocation**); on a Combined, a member's control opens that strategy.
4. **Fix the setting, or leave it as is.** A blocking alert clears only when you change what it names, and its footer offers the fix — **Choose the Risk-Off**, for example. One to review can be fixed, or kept with **Leave as is**; **Leave all as is** keeps the whole batch. What each alert means: [Asset selection](/docs/strategies/fix-the-asset-selection-alerts), [plan limits](/docs/strategies/bring-a-strategy-within-your-plan), [Allocation](/docs/strategies/fix-the-allocation-alerts), [Risk and Exits](/docs/strategies/fix-the-risk-and-exits-alerts).
5. **Reopen one if you change your mind.** In the popover, **Reopen** brings an alert back to the active list, and **Reopen all** brings every one.

**Done.** The strip reads **All clear**, or `{count} reviewed` if you left some as is, and the [Backtest](/glossary/backtest) runs. A Public strategy shows no strip at all: its alerts are not the viewer's to decide.

## What does the footer on a Settings card show?

Each card shows at most one footer, for its most severe control. One to review carries **Leave as is**; a blocking one offers its fix — the Risk-Off card's **Choose the Risk-Off**, or, on a Free-plan strategy holding a [screener](/glossary/screener), **Remove the screener** (or **Change strategy type**) beside **Switch to Starter**. A selection below what its type needs — **Multiple instruments** with one [instrument](/glossary/instrument) — shows the popover's sentence, "Add at least 2 instruments before running this strategy.", and clears from footer, strip and popover together once you add it. Further controls sit behind a line such as "and 1 more control in this card". A control left as is leaves the card: it lives only in the strip's count and its popover, under **Reviewed by you · `{count}`**, with **Reopen**.

## What does "Leave as is" do, and can I undo it?

**Leave as is** acknowledges an alert to review and moves it into **Reviewed by you · `{count}`**: it changes nothing about the strategy, only records that you reviewed it. **Reopen** undoes it for one alert, **Reopen all** for every one. Leaving the last active one as is turns the strip grey, reading `{count} reviewed` — or **All clear** if nothing was ever left as is.

Every alert to review can be left as is; no blocking alert can. A left alert is stored on the strategy and never cleared automatically: if the condition returns later, it stays reviewed rather than reopening. On a [Combined](/glossary/combined), leaving or reopening applies to the strategy you pressed it on alone; the same alert elsewhere keeps its own state.

## What happens to a refused Backtest?

The **Backtest** button keeps its face, with a red base. Beside it sits the reason, as a link to the fix: an alert's short title ("Nothing set for when the risk triggers"); with several, the first in the strip's order — Selection, then Allocation, then Risk; on a Combined, `{strategy}: {reason}`, with `· +{count}` for more; for a refusal that is not an alert — a missing instrument, an [Incomplete Combined](/glossary/incomplete-combined) — its own sentence — see [Why was my run refused?](/docs/strategies/save-run-and-copy-a-strategy#why-was-my-run-refused)

A selection below its type's minimum also turns **Selection** red (**Sub-strategies** on a Combined) as one blocking item, so the strip never reads ready beside a refused Backtest. So does a Combined with more strategies switched on than your plan includes: "The Combined uses 6 sub-strategies, your plan includes 5. Switch off the extra sub-strategies or move to Ultimate.", or "The Starter plan does not include the Combined. Move to Advanced."

## How do controls appear on the strategy lists?

On the Single, Combined and Live lists the **Controls** column shows the same strip, grey on a row with nothing to decide and opening no popover of its own; hovering it reads `{count} to review`, `{count} blocking` or **All clear** (also for a row with only reviewed alerts). A Combined counts per [member strategy](/glossary/sub-strategy): the same alert on two members counts two.

A row's detail panel adds a **Controls** section for your own strategies: the strip, each alert with **Go →** to its card and, if to review, **Leave as is**; a closed one reads **Reviewed by you · `{title}`** with **Reopen**. A Combined's blocked roster shows there in the run gate's sentence, and its **Sub-strategies** list shows, per member with something to decide, a mini strip, its most severe alert's title (`· +{count}` for more) and **Open →**. The **Live** To do list has its own **Controls** group — see [Keep your live book in order](/docs/live/keep-your-live-book-in-order#which-strategies-appear-under-controls). The [Public](/glossary/mine-public) board shows none of this.
