Bring a strategy within your plan

Guide3 min5 steps

Four blocking alerts on the Asset selection card say a strategy holds more than your plan includes — a screener on Free, or too many instruments, screeners or positions; remove the excess or move to the plan they name.

Steps

  1. Find the alert. Selection turns red in the section strip and the Asset selection card's footer names the alert. The Backtest is refused before you press it; the strategy stays intact and editable — see plan compliance.
  2. Read which limit it is. The title — the short form the card and a refused Backtest show — says it: The strategy can't run on the Free plan, Your plan holds at most 10 instruments, The strategy uses 3 screeners, your plan includes 1, or The strategy holds 25 positions, your plan includes 10 — the numbers are your own.
  3. Remove the excess. Remove the screener, the extra instruments or screeners, or lower Max positions, until the strategy is within the limit. None of the four can be left as is.
  4. Or move to the plan it names, from the plan link beside the alert.
  5. Save and run — see Save, run and copy a strategy.

Done. Selection is no longer red, the footer is gone and the Backtest runs. What each plan includes: what each plan includes.

What does the Free-plan screener alert say?

The strategy can't run on the Free plan — "This strategy uses a screener, and strategies with screeners start at Starter. Nothing changes until you decide: remove it or switch to Starter. Until then the backtest will not run." The strategy holds at least one entry or exit screener, and your plan includes no screeners inside strategies — Free, today. The footer carries the ways out: Remove the screener (Remove the screeners when there are several), or, on a Screener strategy — which cannot run without one — Change strategy type, whose sentence then reads "change type" instead of "remove it"; beside them, the plan link Switch to Starter.

What does the instrument limit alert say?

Your plan holds at most 10 instruments — "You have 12 instruments and your plan holds at most 10 in one strategy: while there are more, the strategy can't be saved and the backtest won't run. Remove 2 or move to a higher plan." You picked more instruments than your plan holds in one strategy — the most Max positions it allows. It is the Basket's alert, where Max positions is the number you picked. In Compose a longer list raises it only while Max positions is switched on and above the limit too; within it, the strategy runs and "Some instruments stay out" says which are held. A pasted or added list over the limit is kept whole, never cut. It also stops the save: Save shows this sentence instead. On the top plan the sentence ends at "Remove 2".

What do the screener and position count alerts say?

The strategy uses 3 screeners, your plan includes 1 — "The strategy uses 3 screeners, your plan includes 1. Remove the extra screeners or move to Ultimate." Your plan includes screeners inside strategies, but fewer than this one holds — entry and exit screeners together, usually after a downgrade.

The strategy holds 25 positions, your plan includes 10 — "The strategy holds 25 positions, your plan includes 10. Lower Max positions to 10 or move to Advanced." Max positions is switched on above what your plan allows while the picked list is within it — Compose, a screener strategy, or one kept after a downgrade; switched off, nothing is counted.

Both are counted on every member of a Combined, switched-off ones included. The plan each names is the first that holds that many; where none does, the sentence ends at "Remove the extra screeners." or "Lower Max positions to 10."
