Build a Combined step by step

Guide2 min6 steps

A Combined's Step by step walks five chapters that act on the Combined itself — Sub-strategies, Allocation, Rebalance, Risk and Summary — while each member strategy keeps a walk of its own.

Steps

  1. Create the Combined. In Create new, press Combined; it needs strategies of your own to combine — see What does the Combined tile do? There is no strategy-type chapter: the type belongs to each strategy inside.
  2. Fill Sub-strategies. The chapter lists the Combined's sub-strategies, each with its progress — "3 of 5", or "3 of 5 · to finish" while a required chapter is open, counting required chapters only — the title of its most serious alert, and one action: Open, Fix › with a chapter's name when that chapter holds a blocking alert, or Continue › with one when the strategy is unfinished. A strategy kept aside is tagged Kept aside.
  3. Add a strategy. Add a strategy opens a side panel — "Pick one of your strategies to copy in, or start a blank one." — with Create a blank strategy and your strategies, each marked Add, or In use when already inside. Adding one asks "Add a copy of" with its name: it copies a snapshot, so the original is untouched.
  4. Set Allocation and Rebalance. Allocation has the same three pages as a strategy's, applied to the Combined's own capital, and opens with "The Combined's allocation and risk sit above each sub-strategy's own: the backtest applies both." Rebalance sets how often the Combined rebalances.
  5. Add Risk if you want it. Risk is optional and holds When and Then: Risk-Off — no Exits, because each strategy keeps its own.
  6. Run it from the Summary, as for a strategy — see Build a strategy step by step.

Done. The Combined runs with its own allocation and risk layered over each strategy's — see Combined level.

How do you edit a strategy inside the Combined?

Through its own Step by step: Open, Fix › or Continue › in Sub-strategies takes you into that strategy's walk, with Back to the Combined at the top of its chapter map. In the strategy tabs above, a member carries a mark — Blocks the backtest, To evaluate, or To finish, the last only in Step by step. An unfinished member does not stop the Combined's backtest; a blocking alert on a member does, as the run gate states.

What if the Combined holds fewer than two strategies?

It is an Incomplete Combined and cannot run. It opens this same walk, and its Sub-strategies chapter is where you fix it — add a strategy, or switch a kept-aside one back on.
